Fact 1: Barbados is one of the more populous and prosperous Caribbean islands. It also plays host to about 500,000 visitors every year.

Fact 2: The National flower is the Pride of Barbados or Caesalpinia Pulcherrima which grows all over the island.

Fact 3: In Barbados, the taxis drive without a meter. You have to ask the cab driver the fare before you get in.

Fact 4: When Barbados was first settled in 1627, the island was almost completely covered in thick jungle with a large wild pig population.

Fact 5: Barbados has over 3000 hours of sunshine a year and the average daytime temperature is between 29-31 degrees Celsius.

Fact 6: The legal drinking age for alcohol in Barbados is 18, but those that are aged 10-17 are allowed to consume alcohol provided they are with a parent.

Fact 7: Barbados is only 21 miles long and 14 miles wide!

Fact 8: The population in Barbados is around 283,000 (2012).

Fact 9: Barbados was chosen by Tiger Woods as the location for his wedding in 2004.

Fact 10: Most of what is now the Southern part of Bridgetown (The Capital) was once a huge swamp.
